Vedic Astrology
Jyotisha (known in the West as Vedic Astrology),
from India, is the traditional Hindu
form of astrology that stems from the Vedas (ancient religious texts).
There are three main branches:
- Siddhanta - Astronomy and its use in astrology
- Samhita - Astrology predicting important events such as wars, earthquakers, political events, stockmarket, etc.
- Hora - Astrology for prediction of personal matters
Indian astrology is generally based on the concept of fate, and this includes
Hora (personal astrology).
The theory is that a person is born at
the exact time and place when their fate is in mathematical harmony with the
progress of the stars in heaven.
Furthermore, the good and the bad actions of
your past life determine your fate or karma of your present life, and equally
the actions that you do now will determine your fate or karma in future.
However it would be a misunderstanding to believe that your future is completely
predetermined. Astrology simply provides a tool to help you understand who you are
when you are born, what your future possibilities are, what are your limitations,
what are your personal strengths and weaknesses. From this, a vedic astrologer
can make recommendations about matters such as what type of profession and life partner will
suit you, and what remedial measures you should take in your life to avoid problems
and pitfalls. In other words, astrology simply provides a roadmap of your destiny, but
your final destination remains in your hands.
One way to think of it is: fate is like a card of games. You can not change which
cards you have been dealt, but how you play those cards remains your decision. If you
get good cards and play them poorly, you will do badly. Conversely even if you are dealt
bad cards, if you play carefully, you may still win!
